Norvölk

AN ANIMATED DYSTOPIAN MUSICAL COMEDY

Q: What’s it all about?

In 1987 the county of Norfolk declares independence from the rest of the United Kingdom.
All road and rail links are cut and a fortified border wall is erected around the newly declared ‘People’s Republic of Norvölk’.

The ‘Big Leader’ of the Norvölk People’s Party takes charge and rules Norvölk with an iron fist.
No-one can leave and no-one can enter what quickly becomes known as ‘The Forbidden County.’

Fast forward to the present day and The People’s Republic of Norvölk has degenerated into a quasi-medieval police state. The hapless citizens of the county endure a nightmare world of food shortages, public executions, Orwellian State control and Morris dancing.

Q: Who are the main characters?

The story follows the four members of the Amos family. The Amos’s are typical, down trodden citizens doing the best they can to survive in the nightmare of Norvölk.

Q: So what’s the plot?

Basically it’s the story of a family desperately trying to escape to a better life. As the Amos’s plans to flee near completion something very strange begins to happen to the wildlife of Norvölk - bringing things to a bizarre and terrifying climax.

Q: What would you liken Norvölk to?

It’s The Wicker Man meets Passport to Pimlico via Monty Python’s Holy Grail and The Great Escape - a situation comedy set in a dystopian East Anglia that is part North Korea, part Ceaușescu era Romania and part medieval Britain

Q: An animated dystopian musical comedy?

Yup... Norvölk is a dark comedy. It’s beautifully animated sure enough but Disney it defiantly aint! The action is partly narrated by a wandering minstrel and his sidekick performing original songs that move the narrative along.

It’s rude, sometimes crude, hard hitting and hopefully thought provoking... oh and it’s also bloody funny.
