AMOS

(real name Alan Jacob Amos)

Amos is a quiet, working man in his late thirties. He scrapes together a pretty miserable living as a pest controller and odd job man. Neither brave nor adventurous Amos finds himself forced into action, as life in Norvölk and the threat from his demonic son becomes intolerable.

ANNIE

(wife of Alan)

Annie Mary Amos is the long suffering wife of Alan Amos and mother to Bett and Toby. A calm and practical woman in her late thirties she works as a cleaner at Norvölk Central Party Office. Exhausted by the grinding poverty and casual violence of life in the forbidden county, she dreams of a way out for her family.

TOBY

(son of Alan & Annie)

Toby is the Amos’s eight year old son. As an unquestioning follower of the Big Leader and a zealous member of the Norvölk Youth League. Toby happily informs on anybody that he doesn’t like, sending them to meet their fate at the hands of ‘The Party Police’. His parents Annie and Amos (and sister Bett) are terrified of upsetting him and live double lives - appeasing their monstrous offspring while secretly plotting their escape.

BETT

(daughter of Alan & Annie)

Bethany Jane Amos is the teenage daughter of Annie and Amos. Fearless and frustrated, she longs to escape. As a manual worker and farm hand she spends what little free time she has with her small group of like minded farm girl friends, plotting ways to get over or under the county wall.

THE BIG LEADER

The all powerful

The all powerful , omnipresent ‘Big Brother/Stalin/ Kim Jong Un’ figure of Norvölk. Since declaring independence and seizing power thirty years ago The Big Leader has ruled Norvölk with an iron fist. All citizens must swear loyalty and undying love for The Big Leader on pain of death.
